We can’t escape statistics
By Mark Annett
Typically, most high schools, colleges or universities slip in a statisics course or two, mainly to irritate the students who collectively dislike statistics – apparently as much as 85 out of 100 students report that they do. The truth is of course that we can’t escape statistics. A typical statistician would argue that we are in fact a collection of statistics – and they would be right, 99% of the time. Businesses run on statistics, especially in the sales department where your sales manager will typically immerse him/herself in myriad inferential statistics. The list is endless; e.g. forecast analyses, which are based on pipelines, which are based on probabilities, which are based on prospect feedback, which is based on sales person input, which is based on sales activities and so on and so on – you get the picture? It’s not uncommon to find your sales manager working till the wee hours of the morning, awash in spreadsheets and pivot tables, preparing management reports. Maximizer CRM has done all this for you and created a list of reports that will give you instant 24/7 feedback.
