How to keep visitors on your website Part 3 of 6- Make your webpage more pleasing on the eye
By Karmen Van Der Westhuizen
Readability is one of the most important factors in keeping visitors interested and on your website. If you have ever been on a website with dense unbroken pieces of text you would know this first hand.
Follow these simple points to make your text more user friendly:
- Change the dense text into paragraphs of between two to five sentences.
- Make use of relevant subheadings to break the content up into different sections.
- Add bullets and numbered lists of short key points where possible.
- Use bold, italics and different colour fonts on key words and phrases to draw the eye.
These tips might seem obviously simple and easy to master but they do create elements that your reader can engage with, which will keep them on your website for longer and in turn lower your bounce rate – i.e. the number of times users leave your website after only viewing the first page they visit as a ratio of total visitors to your site.
