Mobilegeddon

By Kélyn Donough

In February this year Google announced that they were planning to release a new algorithm designed to reward mobile-friendly web pages which they did do on 21 April 2015. The new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm now gives websites a boost in Google’s mobile search results if they have the necessary mobile criteria deemed important by Google.
The change took about a week to complete with many people calling the date of the update by a variety of names, such as Mobilepocalyse and Mobocalypse. The most popular name of all was Mobilegeddon.
It’s not usual for Google to pre-announce a big algorithmic change like this but they did this to provide web designers with enough time to make their web sites mobile friendly before the algorithm was in place.
To check if your web page is considered as mobile-friendly by Google, use their Mobile-Friendly Test tool.
